I'riCEEOUE was thrown out of its usual quiet course bv an advertisement iu a newspaper of the Olh"iii?t:iul, calling :i public r.uvti.ng of the ratepayer? of the district t.'gether to-duy to hear a" statement, from Mr. B. Harris, trustee, iu regard to his conduct, in the board of truste-.s, he hiving been accused by tiiree of the trustees of acting ill cons:an!, opposition to the progress of the district board.— The meeting was weii attended, there b-iog upwards of thirty ratepayers present. Mr. Deerness was unanimously voted to the chair, and opened the meeting by reading the advertisement, and calling upon Mr. Harris lo come forward, who said he was glad that "he had the present opportunity alfordcd him of vindicating himself of charges of ?. most untruthful character, which he was happy to eay he was in a position to disprove. Here he brought forward numerous extracts from the minute-book which he read, showing that iu almost every instance, where a resolution was carried, he eitiier was the proposer or seconder, a fact which he (Mr. Harris) maintained did not look like constant opposition, as alleged by some of the trustees. If the ratepayers had no conlidence in him, he would immedia.eiy retire. Mr. George Eastcn, trustee, was then requited by the meeting U slate whether Mr. Harris's statement. was correct, who rose and said it was true in every- particular. Mr. Black proposed, and Mr. Mc . onaiu seconded, " That a vote of confidence be passed in Mr. Harris." Mr. Morgan spoke to the resolution. He thought if there- was opposition it was with Messrs. Corbet', Se .tt, a:.a Godkin; —they had not represented the di-uict fairly. At the annual meeting u was agreed to subdivide the district into three divisions, viz , l'uakau, West I'ukeko'ne, and Kast, puke!.ode ; aud that the money raised i:. c..-'.<. division should be spent in inch division. Now it tumeu cut that Mr. iwidic's rale, v.-hi.-h amounted to some £'23, was to be handed over to West Pukekohe division, instead of being eq.ially divided as it should have Leeii. The motion was then put, and carried unanimously. Itwas then propose :, and carried, '■ Xi.at a vote of censure be passed on l)r. Corbc-tt (ciairmao of trust), for giving his casting vote that Mr. Twidle's rate be given to West l'ukei.ohe." A vote of thanks to the chairman terminated tie meetin-:.— [Correspondent, January 13 ]
