PRESENTATION AMD BANQUET TO MR. ROWE.
The presentation to Mr. William Rowe, exmanager of the Caledonian mine, of a gold watch and chain, accompanied with a hani-somely-executed testimonial, signed by the men, took place at G-rahamstown on the 19th instant. Mr. T. MacfFarlane occupied the chair.—After the usual toasts, Mr. P. Nolan, the vice-chairman, in an appropriate speech, handed Mr. Rowe the casket containing a handsome gold watch, by the best maters, with massive Albert guard, /juarfz, and greenstone appendages. The watch bore the following inscription, and was presented amidst the cheers of those assembled: — "Presented to IV. Rowe, Esq., by the working men of the Caledonian mine, as a mark of their esteem. —December 12, 1871." —The health of Mr. Howe was drunk with three times three 1 . — Mr. Rowe returned thanks in an appropriate speech, and drunk the health and prosperity of the workmen present. —Subsequently, some 150 guests sat down to a banquet in honor of Mr. Rowe, given by his friends on the eve of his departure for Australia. Mr. R. Graham presided, and Mr. W. Lloyd occupied tlio vicc-cliair. The Advertiser gives a long report of Mr. Bowe 8 speech, which seems chiefly to have been a defence of himself and u laudation of the Thames golufield. Both meetings ssem to have been of a very pleasant character, all hands separating thoroughly pleased w.tii themselves and their surroundings. J
