PUBLIC WORKS IN AUCKLAND.
Br the arrival of the Keera, we hare learned that the Hon. Mr. Orrnond, Minister of Works for the Island, was to leave Napier on the 22nd instant, for Auckland. He is to proceed hcnco to the Bay of Islands, with the view of initiating extensive works in the shape of roads, bridges, and railway from the Kawakawa coal mines to deep water. Mr. Brogden, who is expected by the liuna, will also go on to the Bay, where he has been invited to a large meeting to be held by the N/japuhi, at which he will no doubt meet with a real native welcome. It will thus be seen that the Northern districts, bo far from being neglected, are likely to be found in the van in the carrying out of the extensive scheme of public works throughout the colony.
