ALBERTLAND NORTH.

The weather of late has been very unfavourable for some crops, particularly potatoes : certainly we have had threo good showers at long intervals, but the heat is such that in a day or so the ground appears dry as ever. This is | everyone's strain, and that if we do not- get rain Boon it will do no good when it does eorne. We wretched creaturcs always think we have either too much or too little rain. A rather sudden death took place on Monday morning last at tho farm, formerly occupied by Mr. Cameron (who, it will be remembered, was burnt to death in his house in Auckland), and was occupied by his father (deceased). It appears the old gentleman had a fall in the bush a short time previous, and had not complained of anything until Saturday morning, when he said that his back and neck were stiff. He got worse during tho day, and they sent for Dr. Daltoa, under whose directious he was put into a warm bath. He left him late on Sunday night, apparently recovering; however, he got worse, and expired on Monday morning about 5 o'clock. He was an active, j

robust, and hearty man. An Inquest was held before Dr. Dal ton, and a verdict returned to the effect that deceased died from injuries to the Bpine, sustained by a fall. A lingular phenomenon happened on Tuesday morning, just before daylight. The morning star was seen to continue to shoot out jets of light for upwards of five minutes, at times illuminating everything. The party who first saw it; arose from bed and roused the inmates of a neighbouring house, who also witnessed the strange affair.—[Own Correspondent.]
