FLOODS IN THE KAIPARA.
A vat-.T heavy flood occurred ir. the Komokariki and Makarau districts on Saturday and Sunday last, ami it is greatly feared that a m>"-.h respected settler, of some years' standing, lias been drowned. It appears that during the greater part of the week the rain poured down almost incessantly, causing the waters in the creeks to rise rapidly, and to such an extent that Ims not been reached before. Several of the homesteads and a fluiuiill situated on the banks of the Araparicra were completely revered by the rushing waters, and great loss has been caused to settlers by their cattle, sheep, and horses being drowned, and garden produce* washed away. Individual lossts have not yet been ascertained, but ifc is feared the reault will be such as to greatly retard the progresi) of this young and hitherto thriving settlement, many of tbo settlers having already struggled hard and successfully against the difficulties always mot with by these pioneers of civilisation.—[Corres pondent.]
