We uuderstand that Captain Roes, of No. '1 Company, A.R.V., has presented a liuiuber of prizes to be fired for by the members ol' t!ie company on Mondav next, at the bult?, One tree Hill. After the prtrade of Volunteers on Thursday evening, a meeting was held, at "which there was some slight ciispuc? in connection with the champion belt given by Dr. Campbell, and won this year by Private Stewart. The correspondence on the subject was laid before the meeting. It was stated that Dr. Campbell hacj not confined the belt for presentation among the volunteers of the city, but meant it to be competed for by the whole of the volunteers of the province. However, Private Stewart will remain in possession of it this year, and nest it will be fired for by the whole of the Provincial Volunteers. Captain Clark, of 3 Company, intimated bis intention of presenting a champion belt to the battalion, with a money prize of £5, the first competition to take place next year. Ibis offer was received with loud cheers. We understand that next week the annual parade of the Auckland Volunteers will take place, at which it is expected there will be a very largo muster. Every absentee will be fined £5. Colonel Harrington will be the inspecting oilicer, and after the inspection the prizes lately won will be presented to the successful competitors. ~= ' 1
