FATAL ACCIDENT TO A MAORI.
The duv before the ho-rse races at Northern ■Wairoa a fad accident .occurred to a Maori, by which he lost -his life. It appears he had 'j-i-n racing on horseback with other Maoris, .and having succeeded in winning, and protabiv excited wirh his success, threw the reins on the hor.-i-V neck and commencing throwing his crras abour, the horse galloping round the course at the time. Suddenly the animal gave a jerk aK.-l threw his rider backwards ; lie fell heavily upon his head, dislocating his neck, a<id dieii skjrtly afterwards. He is said to lure been a -"rough rider" among the Maoris. The fooKih fellow owes his death to his own re-.-klt-ssaesg.
