I will take an early opportunity of addressing you. I am, gentlemen, Yours faithfully, JULIUS VOGEL. Auckland, October IS, IS7O. rpO THE ELECTORS OP CITY X OK AUCKLAND (WEST).

Kclujw Citizen*,—A worthy son of an olcl colonist called on me yesterday mori inj to enquire whether I inteided to be a Candidate for my former seat in the Assembly for City West. He put the question, he said, because of having h«n told among other things In- oris of the Kcntlemen ii> ehargu of a requisition, that I was not likely to offer as a Candidate for that district, it v reply was of course a reference to lny aniiouucc-incnt in the newspapers. He was satisfied, and said he hart informed the gentleman who lmd applied for liis signature that if tho old members chose to coin* forward, he hail no wish to see them disi>laccil. , , . , It appear?, from the published report m the J. ew Zi:u.\ni> Hkkam> of Wliit took place at an interview with His Honor Mr. Gillies, that a " friend" of mine, u member of the deputation who presented tho requisition to that gentleman had been informed "that Mr. Williamson intended to come out for Newton." , . , To avoid further misapprehension I wish you to know that sueli was never my intention, nor was it ever proposed to me to do so. And I further state to you that it was not until after I was pressed to let my constituents know my intention with regard to City West that my announcement was addressed to you and published on l:ist Friday evening. 1 should also inform you that before the closing of the recent Session of Parliament, a number of the members who had given a geueral support to the Government policy, determined to resume their seats in tho lluu.se of Representatives, if their constituents so willed it, in order to assi:t the authors of the policy to giro ell'ect to it. I was one of that number. We knew that a section of the House was much opposed to the policy which we had supported—and had laid ■plans for its overthrow. If that could not be accomplished, because of its popularity, that every fc-on should be made to wrest from the hands of the present Government the administration of it, Signs of these designs are already manifest. For my own part the policy of last session has long been that of lliv own convictions. The North Island must be opened up to the hands of industry, and that industry encouraged bv every means which a Government can employ before we can hope to succeed and prosper, oiuicr in town or country. Local industries must also bo'fostered so that employment maybe prodded for the increasing town populations. Seeing that the present Government aim at these great objects, and that much collateral good otherwise is likely to flow to the Province and City of Auckland from their measures, I sav, fellow citizens, let your support be riven to the carrying out of that policy. " Destroy it not ; there is good in it."—Yours very truly, ' J. WILLIAMSON. Auckland, October iti, IS7O. TT SIVEKSAL EXP B.ES S.
