The male members of his family, assisted by all settlers of the district who were able, to the number of a hundred, have scoured the whole country, and dragged the Mauku creek, hut no traces have been found. Mr. Cox was one of the oldest and most respected settlers in the neighbourhood, and his loss casts a gloom over the district. He is described as being of fifty threo years of age, about five feet eight inches high, rather bald head, with sandy, bushy, full beard and moustache; was dressed in new moleskin trousers, shepherd's plaid Crimean shirt, and a drab felt hat.
