[COMMUNICATED.] Tiie Bazaar and grand drawing of prizes " in :• id of the All Hollows Convent Liquidation ."■ arid, to complete the purchase of the esta--1 ■.ishinent of the Sisters of Mercy, who devote » seiiv lives to the service of the sick and distressed of every denomination," took place in the, hall.of, the School of Arts/ Brisbane, Queensland, on Tuesday evening, llth ult., and was continued on the two following evenings, under the presence and patronage of His Excellency; tho Governor, Major Blackall—a gentleman-well known to many persons in Auckland—and the principal representative tneh of, Queensland : and their families. As a large number of tickets in aid of the above laudable object were disposed of in this province,- - ! a ;'few .particulars respecting rthee.Tent'will' be 'interesting to our readers. It is stated that no fewer than 90.126 tickets, at one shilling each had been disposed of for the drawing; a'great number of which had been purchased in New.Zealand, Victoria, South '■ ' and "New South Wales. After defraying' the- expenses,: which were • necessarily neavy.'.'amo'untihg to about £1,500, a sum- of £2,500 remained to be devoted to the liquidation' Fund. His Excellency the ■Governor,'before'the commencement of the - drawing, addressed the large assemblage. He spoke in. terms of hisli commendation of the work in which the Sisters of Mercy were engaged,; and expressed the gratification he felt at'being 1 able in any way to promote its success. - He was much pleased to hear that' the appeal for aid made by the Sisters of j Mercy Bad been so well responded to by the inhabitants of other colonies besides Queensland ; and he trusted the result of the undertaking would place them in a position of being able ind -pendontly to pursue their charitable and,mo3t praiseworthy calling— that of administering to the sick and needy, without distinction of sect or-creed. The drawing •was then proceeded with;, and was conducted On the plan of the Art Union, in a most careful and satisfactory manner by a committee of gentlemen,' and- scrutineers appointed. The prizes, numbering over three hundred, were of an elegant and varied description, ranging in value from fifty guineas downwards. Framed print, " Raising to Life," \ c , (45), Miss Fitzgerald, Auckland.' lace chemisette, (4), Miss Isaacs, A Maltese silver brooch;; (11),-'Bev. H. J. Fynes, Auckland. Thb v prizes will be.forwarded to the winners ae|3irected, on presenting the ticket bearing the'winning number. The Sistera of Mercy express their gratitude b> all those who:asSisted-them in. any way in this underdertaking. and who contributed so largely towards the liquidattonpf the' debt. Wei hSve beefn, wquested to state, for the information of the' citizens of Aucklind. that attached to the convent of the Sisters of Mi rjy, Mount St. Mary,. Freeman's Bay, there, is a, ..school for young lady boardere, and also for select day pnpils in the same establishment. Any. iiaforma'ion required may be obtained eitherat St. Patrick's Convent, Wyndhametreet, or at the first-mentioned institution. We belii-ve the pnrents of a number of the principal families in Auckland, of different religious '■denominations, can bear testimony to the fact that the several schools under the charge of the Sisters of Mercy are admirably conducted, reflecting the greatest-credit upon those who have the management and supervision of them, that every care and attention is bestowed upon the educational training of the pupils attending them, irrespective of any religious distinction whatever, and that a high-class education is imparted, while instruction is not denied to the children of poor parents, who are unable to pay for it. Every credit and encouragement is due to those who_ voluntarily devote their time and their services to such a benevolent and ueeful-.-work, which is- undertaken and carried on in a manner to satisfy the most scrupulous.
