INSOLVENT ESTATES.
Elsbwhese will be found the letter of an Auckland merchant, drawing attention to_what has been long felt to be a glaring injustice to business men, and especially to the honest trader, the difficulty of realising insolvent estates so that a dividend shall be forthcoming to the creditors. We can, safely say that out of all the insolvencies which have occurred during the last three years there are not half-a-dozen cases in which the dividends paid to creditors have in any measure corresponded with the assets delivered, or supposed to be delivered, up by the insolvent, cren when estimated at a moderate valuation. The consequence of this is, as our correspondent states, that creditor's" will accept any composition' rather than let the.estate go into.the Bankruptcy Court, and thus a premium is offered to those who are willing to take advantage of such a state of things, pnd clear themselves by: paying a few shillings £t even , pence in the -
