MAUKU.
(VEOM A CORRESPONDENT.) January 15. The settlers resident in and around this district have a great grievance to complain of now in regard to tho new postal arrangements. TTor a long time past the mail from Auckland lias been delivered here on Saturday afternoons, by which means we all got our letters and papers in time to answer them by tho return mail, it not being closed until Monday morning, whereas the mail now does not reacli here till late on the Monday, the return mail leaving the following morning at six, which arrangement will debar any settler from answering his letters till the following mail; but this is not all, the settlers here are m the habit of taking in one of the weekly papers, which they used to receive in time for their Sunday reading, but now the papers not coming till the following week, we are wholly shut out till the following Sunday, which of itself draws expressions of indignation at this retrograde movement. Let us hope, however, that the persons in authority of the postal arrangements will re-consider this alteration. If the present coach proprietors can no longer continue their former arrangement, which gave general satisfaction to all parties, that some other persons may have the chance to do it for them.
The settlers here are all busy haymaking and harvesting, some of them having fine crops of grain. The weather is salubrious, which is being takon advantage of by several parties holding picnics during the past week.
