OUR CEMETERY.
To the Editor of the Herald. Sir, —Tho disgraceful condition of tho cemetery wall on the east side of Symondsstreet conveys its own rebuke to those whoso duty it should be to sea to its repair. It is not, however, to tho fallen wall that I am so anxious to draw public attention as to a small section of the graves that this wall should more carefully enclose. I allude to those that contain the remains of our friends and comrades who fell in action in the gallant discharge of duty to their country and to this province. Long distance, we know, separates those whose pleasure it would otherwise have been to tend these graves. Is it, therefore, too much to suggest that a trust fund be inaugurated by public subscription or grant from the Provincial Exchequer to defray the cost of keeping these graves in proper order and repair ? They are but a moiety of too many that lie scattered through the country as worthy—if it were practicable to extend it to them—of the same good care. It would require no large expenditure to effect this object. There are many, lam sure, who share with me the opinion that this charge should devolve upon the community as a sacred duty. A short article from your able pen would effectually advocate a cause in itself so eloquent, and remove a slur that otherwise nught rest . upon the people of this province.—l am, itc, No Censor.
