ANNUAL DISTRICT MEETING OF THE WESLEYAN CHURCH.
Monday, December 6. Titr meeting was opened at ten a.m. by the Chairman giving out a hymn which having been sung, the Secretary roid the Scriptures, and the Revs. Smith and Hurper off-a-;d prayer. Various matters came under discussion. A 1 ng conversation ensued on the eubjoct of Sunday soho >ls. This arose from the rflading of an excellent oct of rules recommended by the British Conference of 183S, and published in their printed minutes. Tho formation of Circuit. Sunday School Unions was highly approved of in those circuits which have soveral schools. The meeting waß glad to hear that in the Waikato thero aro 106 children receiving instruction in our Sabbath schools. 'Che quoßlion of a new Sundayschool hymn book was brough* up. It was admitted that a new book is desirable, but inasmuch as the English Cjiiforonce aro about to propara one, it was thought best to wait for that publication. During tho <>ay the Chairman read to tho mooting an official communication from tho Secretary of tho Sou.horn District, containing a sorios of resolutions, atlirming tho importance of constituting a Conference for Now Zealand, and accordingly praying that it may be granted. Thoiio esolutions were considered seriatim, hut«the mooting came to tho unanimous conclusion that tho time has not yot arrived when it is dosirable to take that action. Meeting adjourned at fivo p.m. Tuesday, December 7. This daj's session was devoted to financial business. Duo notice h:-.d been sent to Ihn lay representatives, and several of thmn attended. Tho Chairman opened the meeting i:i tho üßiial way and at tho usual hour. Alt matters relating to Church property in the district, came undor roview and considera ion. Three new churches had been bnilt dining tho year, and one minister's residence, ail of which hud conformed to the Uonferenco rule*. An increase was roportod in the nuinboi of Church members, Sunday scholars, and staled hearers. The sovoral district and comioxional funds wore brought up, viz., the Loan Fund, the Annuitant Fund, the Children's Fund, tho Udu- ' cational Fund, the Foreign Mi-'sion Fund, and tho Homo Mission Fund. Tho last named ono occupiod much attention. It was resolved to make every effort to increase its amount, for herein depends our ability to evangelise tho remote settlements. A series of resolutions was adopted relative to the future support of tho Maori Mission, to bo laid before the Conference by the Chairman. Tho meeting closed at au early hour, in order that many of its members might'go t> Mount Albert, where a vory pleasant evening was Bpont in tho annual soiree.
Wedn'sdsy, November 8. The district meeting was opened an before, for its last Hitting. What aro called tho " Livorpool Resolutions" were road to tho brethren according to usuage. Those oomain very solemn and weighty cautions and counsels in regard to tho ministerial and pastoral office. A very profitable conversation followed, in which most of the ministers took part. The minutes were read by tho .Secretary, and confirmed by the mooting. A vory cordial voto of thanks was given to those friends who had po very hospitably entertained tho minister.-, and an expression of sympathy was forwarded to Miv. Whiteley. At 1 p.m. the mooting adjourned to the Church, where all partook of tho Sacrament of the Lord's Sapper; nnd, with the niourjful recollection of tho late Mr. Whiteley, tho question was asked, " wo all thus meet auain ?" The rnply was, " Lst the Lord's will be done 1" Thus closed a vory happy District Meeting. At 2 p.m. dinner wus ready, and afterwards a voto of thanks was presented to Mrs. Buller, for hor Kindness in thui catering to their comfort.
