TAURANGA.
A gentleman who arrived in Auckland by ..the Rangatira, informs us that before he left that city, information, was afforded to the Government at Wellington that an attack upon the Tauranga settlement was cxpected. Te Kooti and Kereopa have joined together, and passing round the lake, given. Colonel McDonald the slip. The intelligence received, says our informant, is that they are making for Tauranga, expecting to find us unprepared for sudden, attack. In this they will be deceived, as there are at Tauranga some eighty men of the Aimed Canstabulary, under Colonel Eraser, who was a fellow passenger from Wellington with our informant, and who was left by the Eangatira at At Maketu also, and at Whakatane, the garrison is quite sufficient to hold its own. Te Kooti, it would seem, is. fairly driven to bay, and is making a last blow in desperation. '
