DUKE OF EDINBURGH THEATRE.

Mk. Talboi's "Macbeth," which was presented last evening, is one of the best con-

ceptions of Shakesperian character that we have vet seen of this gentlemen's performances. In intensity, force, and finish, it is by far the test delineation of the murderous Thar.e ire have yet seeu in Auckland. Where the entire picture was bo viv'diy porha/ed, it is difficult to select special portions for commendation. -Ihe light and shade, so to speak, was admirably contrasted. The celebrated soliloquy coinmencing "Is this a digger I sea before me," wa3, however, one of the portions that called forth tho powers of the artiste, and met with the cordial recognition of the audience. The more we see of Mr. Titlbot'a acting, the more we recognise cause to reiterate our assurance as to his sterling capabilities ; and we feel sure the public Trill endorse our judgment before the termination of his engagement the Duke of Edinburgh. Nest to the bright particular star, Madame Duret'a Lady Macbeth claims attention. There is in her rendering of this unnatural, bloodthirsty specimen of womanhood, a vivid force thai is almost fearful. We had occasion recently to compliment her highly en this impersonation, but last night she seemed to add additional fire to the reading, and fairly dividsd the honors of the- evening with Mr. Talbot. Mr. Roberts enacted the part of Mncduff very creditably, aud after the principal characters had received the honor of a call, reccivtd unanimously a similar recognition of hi 3 efforts. The company played well; the singing was particularly 'goo"i, and everybody seemed to act with animation, vigor, and a desire to please, though, sooth to eay, the house was not wh.it it should have been, with suc'a a cast. To-night " Riehlieu" will be performed, and we feel sure, from what we have seen, will be played in a manner that should command a full attendance.
