ALLEGED DISCOVERY OF GOLD AT RAGLAN.
Mr. G. Vause, postmaster at Raglan, arrived at Onehunga in the cutter Willie Winkie oa Sunday evening, bringing with him a fine sampie of gold taken from a reef found at Kaglun. "We learn from Mr. Yause that Mr. Philps, who has been for some time prospecting in the neighbourhood of Kaglan, informed him on Wednesday last that he bad discovered a valuable reef on the north branch of the liaglan harbour, being about twelve miles from the town by land and two miles by water. Mr. Philps showed our informant several, excellent specimens in which gold was visible, and presented him with a portion of stone, in wliici no gold was perceptible. The latter Mr. Vause crushed in a mortar, and has deposited the result at our office, where it can be seen. The reef is said lo bo on native land, and Philps and party had left Kaglan to proceed with their work.
