TAURANGA.

INIITA.TION BY THE NATIVE OFFICE OP NEW TROUBLES. It ■would seem that the officials in connection with the Native Office are about to cause more trouble at Tauranga by planting a body of armed natives in a* position contiguous to the friendly Hauhaus at a settlement called Eangitaiki. A correspondent writing from Tauranga says-' — " The erection of a pa, armed and supported' by Government' ammunition, will undoubtedly arouse the jealous feelings of these Hauhaus, and the result is certain; that /we : shall again be plunged into war, and the sheep runs of which this pa will form the centre, belonging to Messrs. Taylor, St. George, Cox, Gure, Tetley, and Seymour will have to be abandoned. All this is at the present moment being done by the Native Office officials.of this..place. . The natives who are to hold and erect this pa have already started. They are armed by the Government to the teeth. They are a discontented mob of natives, and are looked upon as outcast? by the natives in Taupo and Bangitaiki. They lately wrote a letter -to Governor Bowen, stating that they had been unjustly treated at the Native Lands Court, because they could not prove a claim to ~the land which had been leased to Messrs. Taylor and St. George, and in this letter they had the audacity to tell. His Excellency that if justice was not dealt out to them : just as they wanted, blood would' be shed. In the face of this declaration, the officials holding this mob of ruffians in high estimation have sent, them in defiance of reason—policy—and the wishes of King and Queen. Natives alike to hold the above-mentioned pa. I should wish to ask what encouragement have intending settlers or capitalists to cause them to come and settle us. None, until the whole fraternity of Native . Commissioners, and native officers are removed from "the Bay of Plenty. .
