Connor, Benj imin Peacock, Patrick Dawson, Thomas McConnell, Patrick Farrell, nnd John Y? eeks were punished for this offence. iJhkach of Wharf Regulation Acr. —Michael Yeates, master of the schooner Industry, waß charged by Cap'ain Ellis, Harbour-master of the Port of Auckland, with a breach of the Wharf Regulation Act, 1868, by not having burning between tho hours ot' sunrise and suns' t a clear light to indicate the position of the gangway of tho said schooner.—Defendant pleaded not guilty.—Jeremiah Currigan, constable, in the Water Police, deposed that on the 27th' ult. he wen t round||to see that all tho vessels had their lights up. It was 7 p.m. no found that the Industry had no light Witness askod defendant to put his light up. Defendant said it was not necessary, but hoisted up his light about aqinrter of an hour afterwards. Defendant u?rd provoking language and jeered at him. The light went out shortly, and was not re lit until ten minutes to nine. —By defendant: The first time tho light was not lit was before I left the wharf. I did not threaten to take it out of you. By tho Court: The vessel was alongside tho wharf. — George Jones was then called for the defence, and deposed to being on board tho Industry on the night in question, when Corrigan came up and requested alight to be put in the gangway. In about five minutes the lamp wdb lit nnd turned for nearly an hour, when it was blown out by tho wind. Witness re-trimmed lamp, and it was burning, when he left the wharf at 12 o'clock.—Archibald Yeates, digger, gave evidence confirmatory of tho last witness.—Dr. Horna asked Capt. Ellis if tho defendant was acquainted with tho regulations.— Capt. Ellis said that defendant had traded for 7 or 8 years to this port, and that the present regulations had been repeatedly warned about tho same offenco. —Defendant was fined £5 and costs.
