VOLUNTEER MEETING.
A MBEXING of the Auckland Volunteers was held on Thursday evening at the Drill Shed, Princes-stroet, when there was a large rauster of the various corps. Captain Derrom was called to tho chair. Major Heapby proposed a vote of thanks on behalf of the whole Volunteer Force to Oolonel Kiliott and the offioers of the 18th Boyal Irish Kejjiment for the loan of their band on sundry occasions. Capt. Hoban seconded the motion, which wns carried unanimously. Capt. Guilding proposed a vote of tha nis to Mr. CommiiHoner Mackay for his kindness and consideration in allowing "protection" to volunteers to attend their duties in Auckland when they have been urgently required on several late occasions. Seconded by Sergeant Battley and carried unanimously. Capt. Gtthding proposed that tho following draft of a memorial be presented to his Honor the Superintendent "The members of the Auckland Cavalry, Eifle, and Naval Volunteers respectfully deeire to represent that many' mcmbern of their respective corps are entitled under the provisions of the Volunteer lands Act, 1865, to obtain land for their services. It is necessary, _however, before land can be obtained that the Superintendent, with the Bdvico and conßont of the Provincial Council of tho Province, Bhould determine in what manner they should so receive it. We, your Honor's memorialists, therefore respectrequeßt that steps may be taken by your Honor to give effect to the intention of the said Volunteer Land Act, 1865, and your memorialists will ever pray, &o."
Seconded by Lieufanant Matthews, and carried unanimously. Captain Guxidikg propoied, That Captains Dorloni and Tole, and Lieutenant Featon, be appointed as a Committee to arrange, engross and present, the above memorial to His Honor the Superintendent. Seconded by Sergeans Huohjs, and carried unanimously.
Proposed by Sergeant Battle?, That the captains' of companies be requested to bring tho question of erecting a monument to the memory of the late Major Tigho before their respective companies, on the next monthly inspection paracio, end the several captains of Cavalry, Biflo and Naval Volunteers, be appointed a Committee to carry out this object, on behalf of the Volunteer Force, with full power vested in them.
