KENNEDY'S BAY.
There is now no longer any doubt as to the value of the Kennedy's Bay district as an alluvial gold-field. The gold brought down by Mr. Mackoy last night—some seven or eight ounces in weight, and composed of four different samples, one at least of which is purely alluvial gold, and of standard value —is satisfactory proof of the paying nature of the new gold-field. It has been procured by prospecting in the banks and beds of creeks by the party of three prospectors, who have been recently working in the district. Elsewhere we publish a succinct account of their proceedings, and of Mr. Mackay's visit, and its results. The energy and tact shown by Mr. Mackay in obtaining the right of mining over this large tract—a tract tenaciously adhered to hy the native owners—is another instance of the zeal and ability shown by that gentleman in developing the Thames gold-fields, a work for which he' deserves the lasting gratitude of thes people of' Auckland.
