Correspondence.

Oun correspondence columns being open to all, we do not hold ourselves responsible for any opinions expressed therein. Correspondents are requested to write only on one side of the paper, and, to prevent mistakes, they should write as legibly as possible. To the Editor of the Press. (Per favor of the Hbraid.) Sir, —Aa in the leading article of this morning's issuo of your paper I am accused of " a flagrant infraction of tho law and knowingly violating the same," I can assure you that T had not the most romote'idea that I was so offending or in any way doing that which the law forbids. In carefully looking over the City Board Acts I find no clause therein where it makes it absolute y illegal to a new cellar opening, and to show that such is not the case I beg to call your attention to clause 22 of the Municipal Police Act of 1866 which is a year later than the Act you allude to. The clause runs thus—" Making any cellar, door or opening from the footway of any street or public thoroughfare without the conßent of the local authority." In conclusion, I beg to say, previous to commencing any alterations in my promises in Queer.-street, I obtained the necessary oonsent of the local authorities.—l am, &c., T. B. Hill. Freeman's Bay, May 13,1868.
