MINING MATTERS.

(Condensed from the Thames Advertiser, May 9.) • Dixon s Claim, No. 1, Madman's Gully, is still turning out to the satisfaction of the shareholders, and the owners are waiting their turn for another crushing at the Company's machine, Kurariui. The last crushing it will be remembered - yielded 94. ozs. out of 7 tons of quartz, or 13 ozs. to the ton. We understand that the Lisborne and Dedham claims, on the Collar-bone, havo amalgamated, with the view of forming a company for the working of their ground. The result of experimental crushings from tho claims have been as follows6oo lbs. crushed have yielded 1-J ozs.; 10 lbs. yielded 1 oz. 13 dwts., and 12 tons yielded f of an ounce to the ton. The Duke of Edinburgh, Karaka Hill, havo had a crushing during the week at Gibbons mill, and a satisfactory yield. Twenty-three tons were crushed, with a yield of 32 ozs. 1-i, dwts. IS grs. Ihe Taupaki Claim on tho Waiotahi, havo obtained 14 ozs. 2 dwts. from 9 tons of quartz, and 22 ozs. from 18 tons, the latter the result of one week's work. The Pai Mariri claim (Bruce and Company), had a crushing of quartz at Scaulan and Co.'s mill yesterday, which yielded 8 ounces to the ton. We are glad to find tiiat tho claimholders on the Karaka Creek have set to work with spirit about making their road, and so woll have thoy worked during tho last fortnight that it is now finished as far as the Hokianga Claim. Thompson and party struck gold on Friday, after spending the labour of somo months on their claim, situate in Madman's Gully Moanatairi Creek. The leader struck is about 18 inches wide, from which several capital specimens were taken out in the course of the day. In a few days over six tons were got out and stacked from the one leader. It is said by many that before, they have done, this party will be successful in getting leaders. If so, they will be fortunate indeed. Apropos of the Middle Star we understand that £1,000 was offered and refused for a share in this claim, • as much as £4,000 being the sum demanded for a full share.

The Lord Nelson Claim, situated between the Golden-Hill and thoKaraka Creek, i ive had a quantity of stuff crushed, which yielded at tho rate of 8 ounces to the ton.
