A Corniah jury brought in the verdict, "Guilty, with some little doubt as to whether he was the man." Cutting.— A young lady possessing more vanity than personal charms, remarked, in a jesting tone, but with an earnest glance, that she " travelled on her good looks." A rejected lover being present, remarked, he " could now account for tba young lady never having been foand tar from home." While Thelwell was on trial at the Old Bailey for high treason, he wrote the following note and sent it to hia counsel: —" Mr. Erskine, I am determined to plead my cause myself." Mr. Erskine wrote under it. "If you do, you'll be hanged!' To which Thelwell replied, " I'll be hanged, then, if I do." " Paddy, where's the whisky I gave you to clean the windows with ?" " Och, master, I just drank it, and I thought if I breathed on the glass it would be all the same."
