The following doggrel is eaid to have been inscribed over the doorway "f one of the ear'y insurance offices, about the year 1777: — Come all you jollj Britons, who love your blooming wives, Insuie large rums on your precarious lives, So that your widows may be rich when you yourselves are rotten, And they may live in happiness when you are quite forgotten.
