LYTTELTOH". Our commercial prospects have shown but few symptoms of improvement during the past week, and the same complaints are made of the absence of inquiry for goods. The greatest depression still prevails, and with the exception of a few Bales of English hams and bacon at less than coat price, and aleo colonial butter for shipment to the West Ouaat, there is but very little doing. Credit iB still in a very uncertain Btale, and new failures are conatantfy taking' place. The money fo* discounts i* stringent. Exchanges we unaltered.—Times, August 17. OTA <50. With the finer weather there has bien a rather better demand for town and country trade; but business has not regained anything like animation, and immediate improvement is scarcely expected. Some transactions have taken place in brandies, building materials, and teas, without, however, anything, either in the extent of parcels or prices obtained, furnishing occasion for notice. But littlo has been do« ing for requirements Tjeyond the province; and ty auction the business done during the laßt day or two has been inconsiderable. —Times, Aug. 14. HOKITIKA MARKETS. Flour having come to hand freely, has barely maintained our last quotation, £18 to £19 per ton, for first Adelaide, may be quoted as present rates; oats, 4a 3d to 4s 6d; bran, 2s 9d to 2s lid; pollard, Is 9d; potatoes, £7 to £10 per ton; butter (prime), ls7d to , Is 9d; cheeße, llsd to Is 4d ; large Cheddar in good condition, scarco, and saleable at Is sd; bacon and hams (Sinclair's), N. 0., Is 5d to Is 6d per lb.; candlns (Nfevo), la 3d in 1«4d; Belmont's, 7» 3d; 1 kerosene oil has been placed at 4s 4d. There is more enquiry for sugar at an advance of £2 to £3 per ton; there is little alteration to quote in tean, the tendency being decidedly in favor of sellers. In wine and i spirits there has been a good trade demand; well known brandies, say, MarteH's and Hennessy's, have gone into stock at rates ranging from 83 to 8s 6d, Champagne Vineyard is meeting with more favor. Wines are without alteration. Ale, in bulk, new brew, is enquired for. Beer, in glass, dull, consequent probably on the late prevalent inclement Veather.— West Coast Times.
