EXHIBITION OP PICTURES ON MAORI SUBJECTS.
To-day, to-morrow, and on Monday, there will be exhibited at the shop of Mr. Lcech, Shortlandstrcct, some very interesting pictures on Maori subjects, tlie •work of Major Von Tenipsky, a gentleman well known to every colonist in New Zealand as a literary man and soldier of distinction, but wlio to many will appear in a new character as aa artist, which he sustains with equal crcdit. These paintings will be forwarded to Wellington by the Phcebc on Tuesday, where, wo believe under the patronage of His Excellency Sir George Grey they will be disposed of by raflle. Wo are sorry to see pictures of such merit, and many of them possessed, too, of local interest, leaving Auckland, but as Wellington during the session will be by far the better place to dispose of them, \vc must in good -will to the artist be content to see them go. Nevertheless, we would candidly recommend the lovers of art to visit Mr. Leech's establishment in Shortland-street, and take the only opportunity afforded them of enjoying what'will be to such a more than ordinary treat. They represent " The Maoris sallying forth from Orakau pah," " Takapuna lake, North Shore" ; " A Maori ambush, Wanganui" ; " Attack on Burtt's farm, Auckland" ; "An officer of Military Train cutting down a Maori at Nukumaru." In order to pay the expenses of the exhibition, one shilling admission will be charged.
