James Bobinson, Jolin Tackabury, and James Sullivan were punished for drunkenness, the two last mentioned being sentenced to undergo seven days additional additional imprisonment. Benjamin Low and William JVlorris pleaded guilty to the olience, by having been drunk and disorderly on board the ship Ironsides. •Fined 20s. and the costs, or in default fortyeiglit hours imprisonment with hard labour. OTTERING FOEGED CHEQUES. \V illimn J. Morrance was charged with having on the 18th inst., uttered a forged cheque for £6 5s on the Bank of Now Zealand, purporting to be drawn by John Lamb. Bichard Hobbs, a draper carrying on business in Upper Queen-street, deposed : The prisoner came into my shop last night between 6 and 7 ' o'clock, and asked me if I could cash the cheque now produced, and which purports to be drawn in favor of James Wilson by John Lamb of the Waitemata Mills. It is for £6 os., is dated the 18th inst., and is on the Bank of Now Zealand. I asked the prisoner if his name was James Wilson, and he said it was. I did not cash the cheque, but made inquiries at Henderson and Macfarlane's, and the clerk said it was a forgery. The prisoner said he wanted a few goods. I retained tho cheque, and gave the prisoner into custody at the police guard-room. The prisoner had selected a few goods while I was making inquiries ns to the genuineness of the cheque, bul I did not let him have them. I never saw the signature of John Lamb until last night, and the signature in the cheque is altogether different. The cheque is calculated to deceive a person unacquainted with John 1 Lamb's signature. Jno. Lamb, sworn, deposed: Ido not know whether he was ever in my employ. The cheque produced does not bear my signature, but resembles it. There is only one Jno. Lamb, beside my son, at the Waitemata Mill. It is not his signature, and bears no resemblance to my writing. It is not calculated to deceive anyone acquainted with my writing. C. G-. Jenkins, sworn, stated: lam ledgerkeeper at the Bank of New Zealand. Do not know the prisoner. The cheque now produced was presented for payment at the bank this morning. I did not cash it because John Lamb has no account there. I returned the cheque to Mr. Hobbs. Police Sergeant Clarke, deposed : I received the cheque now produced from the prosecutor, Mr. Hobbs. It is calculated to deceivc persons unacquainted with John Lamb's signature. Prisoner having been cautioned in the usual manner, had nothing to say in defence, and was fully committed for trial, at the nest criminal sessions of the Supreme Court. ASSAULT. Thomas Tierney and Harace Seeley were charged with assaulting John McCormick. Tierney only appeared (Seely not answering to his summons) and pleaded not guilty. Mr. Joy appeared for tho prosecution. The service of the summons having been proved, a warrant was ordered to be issued for tho apprehension of Seely, and the case adjourned until Friday next. This concluded the business of the Court.
