POSTAL IRREGULCARITY.

j To the Editor of the New Zealand Herald. Sib,—Several complaints have appeared in the papera lately on the subject of the irrogular manner in which the country mails are received. I can endorse this, by personal experience, unfortunately, bo far as some of the Waikato settlements are concerned, for many a time have I been disappointed and annoyed at not receiving my newspaper ; as for letters I care Jless about them. After my day's work I think little of walking a couplo of miles for my Herald, and feel somewhat chagrined on beinq; told by the postma-ter that the mail has not come, or there ia no newspaper to-day, and then, probably in a week or so, receive a number of thorn together, when they have lost much of their interest. Where the blame lies I do not pretend to say, but certainly the matter is sufficiently important to be looked into, and some steps token to ensure periodical and certain delivery of our letters and papers. X do not wish to attributo blame to the postal authorities in Auckland, for I have invariably received from them the utmost attention, and I am sure if the Chief Postmaster (who I believe to be a mo«t courteous and efficient officer of Government— more than can be said of many another official) had his attention called to it, he would do all in his power to remedy what iB to the out-settler an intolerable nuisance. If only as a matter of self-interest I think you gentlemen of the press should take the matter up. The country settler has little to relieve the monotony of his life of toil, and he looks forward to getting his newspaper with an interest which it is difficult for a person living amid tha conTeniences of town life fully to appreciate,—Yours, &c., Cambridge, June 10, W.
