MEETING OF THE MOUNT ALBERT DISTRICT HIGHWAY TRUSTEES.
In accordance with the notice which appeared in this journal and tho Provincial Government Gazelle, a meeting of the highway trustees was held on Tuesday afternoon, at the Whau Road school-room, for the purpose of hearing appeals against the assessment. Several ratepayers, who for the first time shewed any interest in the _ matter, but were non-electors (not having complied with the Highways Act by lodging their claim to vote with the gentlemen appointed by his Honor the Superintendent for that purpose) endeavoured to obstruct tho business of the meeting by demanding that the minutes of tho last public electors' meeting should be confirmed. A. K. Taylob, Esq., chairman of the board of trustees, explained that this was merely a meeting of the trustees to hear objections against the assessment, consequently the minutes oflast meeting could not be confirmed, but at the next annual meeting of ratepayers, to be held in September next, or at a general meeting called by a majority of the electors. The business of the meeting was then proceeded with, when ten ratepayers appealed, and the amount abated on the whole of tho appeals was £961, which will be a reduction of four pounds and one penny on the sum total of rate.
