CAMBRIDGE.
(FROM OUR OWN COBHBPONDENT.) Arbakgeubnts have been made for a rifle Bhooting match, in which ten Cambridge mon are to contend for a prize of £10, with an equal number of the Ith Regiment. The timo for tho match to take place haß not yot boen fixed. This is decidedly a step in tho right direction. Whilo we are plagued with " wars and rumours of wars" in all directions, and with cowardly outcries on the part of some, it is gratifying to see the Hamilton aud Cambridge men return a manly and practical answer to thoso things, by this effort (tho first, it is to bo hoped, of many) on tlicir part to perfect themselves in tho art of self defonco. so as to bo able, shculd our Maori neighbours think fit to attack us, to givo them a tasto of the stuff that Britons aro made of. In my last lettoj, in mentioning an accident which occurred horo to ono Thomas Phillips, of this Regiment, I stated that his horse had not been heard of Bince tho accident. I havo since ascertained that this was a mistake—the animal having been recovered the same afternoon that that event took place.
