THE SPORTS IN DRAKE-STREET.

Yesterday afternoon a series of sports, comprising quoit matches, foot racing, came o£T near the lied Lion Inn, Drake-street, and notwithstanding the unfavourable state of the weather a goodly number of the residents in tliat locality assembled to witness the sport. The principal event on the list was a quoit match, the prize being a silver cup, value about £2, distance 21 yards. This game was commenced on Friday by eleven players, on which day it resulted in Messrs. Stirling, Drummond, and Wilson remaining to play oil'. These three players were on the ground yesterday at the appointed time, and a very interesting match was the result. Stirling and Drummoml commenced operations first, tho former clearing twenty-one, and the latter ten, Stirling thus beating his opponent by eleven points. Stirling and Wilson then played oft", _ the former proving the victor by eight points. In consequcncc of the spongy condition of the soil, tho quoit ground, which is a remarkably good one in fine weather, was anything but favorable to good piny, but notwithstanding this some really scientific play was exhibited, and considerable interest was manifested in (lie game throughout. Tho cup was presented to the successful competitor in the evening by Mrs. Akers. Besides the quoit match, thcio was a race among the navvies for a silver cup, which was won by Mr. J. Kane. In another race, also for a silver cup open to all comers, the winner was Mr. H. Peven. There were also several races among the juveniles for small prizes, which created considerable amusement. The sports wore got up by Mr. G-. Akers, proprietor of the Jiecl Lion Inn, and the success which attended the a (lair is a proof of the ability with which the arrangements were carried out.
