COMPENSATION.
To the Editor of the Us'.v Zealand Hiniiii;. Sin, —Can you enlighten us settlers of the South ato the value of the certificates obtainable at Mr Boardman's office, relative to compensation for 10 33 e3 through the war ? Are they simply an acknowletjo* ment from the General Government that a certain sum is due to a certain settler? Can they be pre. sented at the Treasury Office of the General Government in Auckland, and cash obtained for them at once ? Is the interest at so much per cent, per annum paid on them until they are paid ? By what means can wo turn them into cish, and about whit is their market value ? "Wo have suffered most severely by the war, and our claims have, in many cases, been most unjustly reduced. —We are, &c., rxvjL'nED Settlers. [The certificate in question is given by the Commissioner, and simply certifies the amount of his final award, and states how much has been paid on account of each claim, and the balance remaining. It says nothing as to how, when, or where, the balance will be paid, nor is any mention made of interest. We cannot inform our correspondents how they can turn their certificates iuto cash, nor what is their market value.—Ed. N.Z.H.] '
