BAY OF ISLAND'S COAL FIELDS.— CORRECTION.
To the Editor of the New Zealand Hebajt). Sib. —In my letter on the Bay of Islands Cooperative (share) Mining Company, in to-day's' Heilald, the sense or the foil meaning of a sentence lias been obscured by an omission and error of the printer. My letter may have been faulty, and not conveyed, fully my meaning, and though an old truth, it is ■worthy of being prominently kept before working men, and continually reiterated in their hearing. As you had it, it was " labour cannot be done--without capital; but are the labourers in and around' Auckland destitute of capital, combination, and the power of littles ?" Now, if you stop the sentence at " capital," and commence a new one as follows:—" With them, combination and the power of littles united and properly directed, how great, strong, and powerful may they become." Dr. Chalmers' plan of weekly subscription in every household was meant o* given as an illustration of this, and the Fenian movement may be given aa another, though in a bad cause and ill-directed. Let the working men in this province be alive,, then, to their true interests, and co-operate as one man to fnrther this proposed association. Their power, properly directed, would soon be felt for good in the province.—I have, &c., J. A,
