CRICKET.

n.11.5.5. ESK V. H.M.S.S. FALCON. The return match between the above cricket clubs took place yesterday morning on the Domain ground. Tho day being line, a large number of people assembled to witness the sport. Captain J. P. Luce, of the Esk ; Colonel O'Brien, of the Military Train, and several other officers also honored the field with their presence. Owing to the late heavy rains, however, the ground was not so favourable as it might have been, and somewhat damped the ardour of the cricketers. Mr. Glassock was appointed Umpire. The wickets were pitched at 11 a.m., and the Esk winning tho toss, sent the Falcon's eleven in—Flemmiug and Morris taking the first bats. Their winnings were of rather a short duration, although they scored well, 49 runs in all. The Ksk's eleven then went in, but met with almost as bad luck as their antagonists, for in a very short time the whole eleven were declared out, with only 13 runs. The Esk's then followed their hand, going in for their second winnings. This time Sherwood scored well, and was well supported by Dotterill, the former making 17 and the latter o runs —but eventually Sherwood being caught out, the second innings closed with 80 runs, the remainder of the eleven scoring only 6 amongst them. The Falcon's were, therefore, declared the winners in one innings by 6 runs. The hour being yet early, and the match olayed, several scratch matches were got up between the men-of-wars-men and civilians, during which some very good play was made, and the wickets struck at 4.30 p.m., after everyone having spent a pleasant day. It is with much pleasure that we hear that -,hese friendly matches between the men of the /essels of war stationed in this port are likely -,o become more frequent: and now the cricketing season is coming on, we expect to see some rood sport, more especially as the Esk is likely to remain here for several months longer.
