MONTHLY SHIPPING SUMMARY.
ABBITAXB AND DEPABXtTBES. The weather during the past month has been very unsettled and stormy, and heavy gales have passed over the coast, unattended, however, we are glad to report, with scarcely any loss of property and life. Shipping business has been very active, the arrivals and departures being very numerous. The arrivals have been 23 in number, of 6825 tons, and comprise 2 from London, 1 from San Francisco, 1 from Melbourne, 1 from Sydney, 3 from the South Sea Islands 3 from Newcastle, N.S.W., 3 from Queensland, 1 from Adelaide, 1 from Hobart Town, and 1 from Valparaiso.
Tho arrivals from London wore the ship Siam, Captain Ashby, on the 10th September, 99 dayß out from Gravesend, with cargo and fi4 passengers, all of ■whom arrived in good health j and the ship Pegasus, Captain Cornwall, on the 19th September, HI days from the Downs, also with a large general cargo and Bome 50 Neither of these vessels report anything of special interest occurring on the passage. The other arrivals of note have been the barque Constance, from San Francisco on the 4th ; and tha harque Dragon, from Valparaiso via Sydre* 7 , ' n tic 25tkSeptember, both with, bre&istuffj,
The departures have boon 20 in number, of 6680 tons, and comprise:—1 for* Valparaiso, 4 for Melbourne, 4 for Newcastle, JT.S.W., 2 for Sydney, 2 for Hobart Town, 1 for Maiden ißland, 1 for Callao, 1 for San Francisco, and 4 for Queensland. The only English ship that has left our waters was the Hob Roy, Captain Sangster, on the 22nd, for Callao, in ballast. The Peru sailed for Valparaiso, on tho sth; and the Constance, for Sun Francisco, on the 26th September. * Note.—Thoso vessels liavo gone to the coast to load timber—the Eliza Sliairp, at Wangapoa; Atlantic, at AVaitieki; Vistula and Leonidas, at Wangapoa. Tho ships now in harbour are, the Monarch, about to sail for Melbourne with troops ; Pegasus, dirchargi ing cargo at the wharf; Siatn discharging at the wharf, and about to leave for Hobart Town with troops ; and Norwood, about to sail for Java. Tho Siam will load upon her returnjfrom Hobart Town, and the Winterthur and Ida Zeigler ore also announced as boing on the berth. Both these vessels, as also the Cossipore, may shortly be looked for from London. IIIinGRATIOjr AND EMIGRATION. NAVAL API) MOITABY. Wo have had quite a fleet of men-of-war in harbour during the past month, and at the present time there are no less than five anchc red off Fort Britomart, viz., Curagoa, Commodore Wiseman ; Challenger, Commodore Mcduire; Esk, Captain Luce; Falcon, Captain Blako; Eclipse, Captain Freemantle. The Challenger arrived on the 28th, after a good passage of 120 days from Spithead, via Madiera, Rio do Janiero, Cape of Good Hope, and Sydney. She has come to relievo tho Curagoa and Commodore McGuire will hoist his pendant to-tnor-row, upon which occasion tho fleet will salute him with broadsides. The Curagoa and Eclipse both loavo for England to-morrow morning. Both vessels and their crows have rendered most valuable and efficient service here, and they carry with them the good wishes of the poople of Auckland. Tho Brisi:, Captain Hope, left on the 20th for Sydney, to be docked and overhaulod. The wholo of tho 50th and 1-lth Eogimonts are now concentrated in Auckland, ready for embarkation to Australia Tho Alice Cameron sailed for Brisbane on the 26th with a detanhment of 02 men, 5 women, 12 children, and 4 officers of the 50th Regiment, in command of Captain Creagh. The
Auckland takes some 300 of tho 50th to Sydney tomorrow, and the Monarch, for Melbourne, Siam, for Hobart Town, and Novelty, for Adelaide, follow'in a few days after. The Siam has also been taken up for troops for England, and further tenders are invited for the conveyance home of the Military Train &c. ' LAUNCHES, &a. Several fine specimens of coasting traffic havs been turned off the stocks during tho month, the most noteworthy of which are the contre-board ketch Isabella, built by Mr. Hutchinson, of Onehunga • a three-maßted schooner named Ocean Wave, by Mr Beddoss. of the North Bhoro, for tho Southorn and Melbourne trade, and a now forry and tug-stoamor by Mr. Duthie, of Smules' Point, for Captain Casey. Captain Wing's now harbour steamer tho Halcyon made a most successful trial trip on the 13th and is' now trading to Waiuku and other places at the Manukau. WRECKS, &c. Tho most important casualty that has happened this month is the wreck of tho barque Culgoa at Hokianga. She was bound for China, with spars iron bark, &c., and got stranded in crossing tho bar' The latest report from that placo states that the Culgoa has been got cIT tho sand-bank, and is afloat in the river discharging her cargo of spare and iron » ar t Webster purchased the vessel and carco for £160, three suits of sails for £11, and tho stock of provisions for a trifling amount.
The Auckland schooner Coral Queen has been totally lost at New Calodonia; crew saved, and vessel insured.
The native schooner George foundered on the 23rd inst., in the Thames, and all hands on board were drowned.
