OPOTIKI.
(from ottb own correspondent.) Since my last very little has taken place down bora, with the oxception of four large stores having been erected by Mr. Kelly, tlie contractor for bread and groceries, and also a bakehouse, wbich keeps tha camp well supplied with good wholesome bread. Tho contract for freßh meat has been taken by Messrs. Black and Co., but I understand they do not commence killing until tho stock of Government Bheep has been issued.
Wo have had two sales of Government horses lately, and realized very fair prices, ranging from £5 to £9. °
Matches preparatory to the sports coming off, are now tho order of the day, and will cause most likely a larger number of entries for the regular ranes. All the entries are to be made to-day, and the sports aTQ fixed for Wednesday next and two fallowings days.
On the 7th we had the outter Margaret brought in, in charge of tlio Govcromont boat's crew, having beon seized at Whakatane by tho orders of Major St. John, for a supposed breach of regulations, although at tho same time tho master of tho craft was trading undor permission granted by authority. The hotel spoken of in my last as being in course of erection is now fast getting on, and will include, besides tho bar of tho hotel, a drapery store on the ground floor, and up-sfairs for public meetings or largo assemblies; 0110 largo room of forty-two feet leng, by twenty wide, besides accommodation for about fifty persons. The bridge on this road leading to the Bedoubt, broken down during tho heavy rains some time back, has been put up at tno expense of Mr. Smith, who has caused a new road to be cut a few yards from the old ono, and sloopera placed across from bank to bank. Tho Fortune loaves this port to-day for another cargo of cattle, &o.
