MANGAPAI.
(FBOM OUT! OWN CORRESPONDENT.) On Wednesday the 19th inst., tho quarterly cattlo market was held in Mr. Meara's paddock. Mr Bust, of Wangarei, sold the effects of the late Charles Cockerill, who was unfortunately drowned outside the Wangarei Heads some time ago. One of tho cows had been missing some 4 or 5 days previous to the sale, and it was feared that she had eattm too mu-h f.upake, this proved to bo the case, as she was found dead the following day. After the box of clothes, watch, gun, &c, were sold, the stock were offered and realised tho following amounts, viz., a calf about one month old, (which belonged to the lost cow) £2 10*., one poloy cow and calf £10 12*. Gd., two yearling steers £3 18s. 6d. each. One brindled cow, aged and very low in condition £3 ]2i. Onethreo year old filly, £3 17s. GJ. Several other cattle were offered (the property of settlers in the district) ono white and dun spotted heif'r, near calving brought £S 2s. 6d., and one red and striped polled heifer also near calving £9 2s fid. the remainder were withdrawn. During the forenoon tho weather wai strong and doubtless prevented several from attending, had it been line more buyors would have been tliTe. We hope Mr. Bust will succeed in getting up a good market hore, which will bn a convenience to b:>lh buyers and sellors, and csoeeially to new-comers, several of which we aro happy to say, aro finding there way up hero amongst us.
