Business during tho month has been moderately good, t.hu vessels that have arrived have been looked for anxiously, partly in consequence of the. non-ar-rival of tho Napier, and also owing to tho uncertainty of the eireotfl of the proposed revision of the Tariff, now daily expected to be brought into operation. Spirits —Mar toll's good supply ; pale an dark in qr. casks, 8s to 9s rum, d&rk, at 3s (3d to 3s 9d ; Geneva, red case 13s to 15s ; whisky, 10s to lis 6d; Old Tom, 12s to 15s. 'I'eas. —The market is fairly stocked with all kinde of teas, and the ordinary trade of the place haj been Bomewhat affected by large sales of damaged teas .by auction. Sugars generally dull. Crushed, loaf la now plentiful, and offered at ofis. Company's pieces from 46s to 55s per ton. Tobacco. —Good samples of nOgrohead at I's tc 2s 6d. Cavendish, 10J, Is 2d. to Is Gd. Slieopwash leaf, od to 7d ; negrohead and caven dish, 10a to Is 2d. Candles. —Belipont sporm, in large Is 2c and Is 3d ; and in small quantities, Is 4d. Kerosene oil, (Id to 5s ,'jd. In our o»vn commercial circles great inactivity hat prevailed. Trade, however, appears sound, in spite too of some trying circumstances. We are sorry to observo a strong and apparently sudden inclination on the part of one of our leading houses to curtail a business which, from its long period of establishment, has naturally commanded interests of some magnitude. The land sales for tho last month- comprised 5.479 acros, realising £10,9.18. Wc shall look forward with interest to ,thp result of a largo land sale, catalogues of which are no w in circulation, to bo held in October, as testing the market value of such properties. Wo regret to announce tho failure of Jfossrs. Alannering and Cunningham, stockowners, in the Eangiora district.—Times, Sept. 15. OTAGO. Nothing of commercial intoreßt is taking place. The Ziska, cleared at the Customs io-day 1 for King George's Sound witjj 10,000 sov.erfeigns on freight. The Mario Gabrille, froni Bourbon, baa brought 13,000 small mats of sugar, afjd $7 cases of champagne. A meeting of creditors in the estate of Buyers and Co. was held to-day at Mr. Bass's office, when a statement was submitted showing unsecured liabi ities to £4613 18s.; assets, £347; liabilities secured, £3224 6s. lOd. ; contingent liabilities, £-10,365 10a. lOd Total liabilities, £18,203 lis. Bd. The meeting separated without arriving at aoy decision regarding futuro action in the estate. Mr. Doan's sale to-day passed off Tory quiojly. The bulk of tho sugars offered; wero in small parcels, and afford no criterion of the.market. Teas were dull of sale, and hardly any business Was done. A quantity of stout, ale, currants, and other goods sold with all their faults, realised fair rates considering their condition.—Herald, Sept. 12. LONDON WOOL REPORT. July 26. A slight advance has been made on the closing rates of lest sales, and a large business is doing in North Lancashire. Large orders have bten received for the spring trade, and should peace be declared, an advance of Id to Ijd may bo expected, and in Port Phillip 2d to 2}d. The next sales are expected to roaeh 130,000 bales, the total arrivals to date being' L 07.000 bales. PRODUCE MABKBIS. Hides have declined Jil per lb. ; the iwljs have>eon small.

Spirits, —Umm is in less demand, brandies ana wines are easily saleable at former quotasions. Metals.: —Manufactured copper has declined £5 ; Burra Burra and Wallaroo sold at £83 to £84 per ton ; the iron, market is quiet. Sugar is in. better demand at Is per cent higher ; the stock on hand for the present period is only 13,000 torts more than; that of the corresponding po, iod last year. Coffee. —Native and plantation has advanced 3s to 4s; nothing doing in floating cargoes. Kice is 3d to 6d per cwt. lower, but there is a good business doing for export. Corn. —In cqnsequenpe of the splendid crops prices have given way ; maize 3s to 4s per quarter, and oats Is to 2s lower.
