Tho level crossings on this railway are a disgrace to the 1 rovinee. As an Albert car was passing the crossing yesterday, the horse tripped over the rails, and lell, seriously injuring his knees. Fortuuatoly no one was injured. Had a string of waggons come down the lino at tho time, the case miglit have been very different. We noticed yesterday that there were eighteen (IS) level crossings on the line between Auckland and Onehunga—a distance of six miles. We hud, on inquiry, that this is the correct number. Such a thing was never known before in any part of the world. In England there is great difficulty in getting a bill for a railway passed in which a level cutting appears, and it is only permitted where it cannot bo possibly avoided. In the Auckland and Drury Bail way the engineers have actually altered the levels of the road, to make the crossings come upon the level! This is the case also with tlio plans for the line to Drurv ! !
