ARRIVAL OE H.M.S.S. ECLIPSE. RETURN OF HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR. ARRIVAL OP THE PAT MARIRE HIGH PRIEST TE UA. 160 MAORI PRISONERS SENT TO THE CHATHAM ISLANDS. SUBMISSION OF THE HAUHAUS.
We give below a narrative of the cruise of the Eclipse. That vessel brings v.-ith her the head of the Pai Marirc superstition, the prophet Te Un. He comcs as a guest of his Excellency Sir George Grey, who landed at the Jv avniu, but who sent Te Ua on to Auckland, with instructions that he should be entertained in Government House. Left Wellirgton 24th February, at 5 30 p.m., with the Governor. H»ri Kerei, Hon Kingi, To Ua (llauhau prophet), arrived at Napier Sunday 25th, j at 7 V- m ; remained at Napier till Miirch Ist. Whilst at Narier natives eamo into town in great : nuiut ors, and tho Governor held two meetings with them in tho Court House Left for Wau-oa, Thursday, March let, at 1 30 p m., Mr. Mclics-n, Superintendent, a 1 compaii)I 11 ?? us in St. Tvilda ; arrived and .'inehorrd at Sp m. Sir GeOrge Grey, Mr. Maclo.ni, llori Kc ei. Hoii Kinu'i, and tho Prophet, went on hlioro next morning. Tho Governor was received on the beach by a large number of natives in a very enthuiiubtic manner. Tho natives hero express great dissatisfaction at tho late doings of To Ua. On leaving, a boat load of water-melons, potatoes, Sc., were sent o!F as a present. Left Mine evening, accompanied by St. Kildu, for Poverty "Bay. Arrived next forenoon, Saturday 3rd. Great excitement among the r.ativcs, . who welcomed the Governor on the b aoh with volleys of musketry, war danee, &c. l.eft for Awauui (Morgan's) same evening*, St. Tvilda returning to Napier with the Superintendent, and 160 prisoners to bo rent to Chatham Islands without any guard from Poverty Bay to Nnpier. Arrived at 4ivaKui on ths morning of Sunday, 4tli A number of natives came on b-mrd ar.d seemed much escited and ot!\:nded at Te Ua. Some proposed to kill him. Morgan nnd a fen- othors c:mio, each one oipressing his abhorrence of jiai maririsnt, and making long epocc-hcs on deck against Tn TJa. The Governor went on shore with Cap'Ain I'remuntle, but, I suppose, did not like to tako the prophet with him. I tun peraundo'.l the natives would have done him some injury. -Everything quiet along the coast, so far. Left Awanui fur Opoliki oamc evening at 3 o'clock, and anchored off the mouth of tho river at 7'45 a.m. on tho sth. fcturt, p.s., cams out and took Sir George Grev, Captain ITremantlo, Te Ua, and tlie other Maories into the town. sCar!v on same afternoon came on to blow fresh ; Kclipse hud to put- up i anchor and steam for shelter to Whale Island ; 11-30 p.m. Slurt arrived at Whale Island with Governor. &c. Eclipse proceeded immediately under full steam for Kawau; nrrired at Kuwait at 9 30. Tuesday night landed (iovernor. Left Kawau, Wednesday morning at 5'30.; Te Ua and a few Maories on board.
