A hunri arrived at daylight this morning Jia-nng on board the lioad-quartcra of the 12th ifegiment from Kapier, under Colonel Hamilton, and eparta this evening for Auckland with the remainder (hend-qiiarters) of the 68lh. This regiment has been Stationed at Tauranga during the last two years, and 'V w °n tl.o esteem of the whole of the residents of the district, as well as the fear and respect ot tho natives. Perhaps, with regard to the latter, no owner had succeeded better than Colonel Greer. ■It was his gcod fortune, with the force undor his command, to give tho rebels the severest dressing ovor received by them, from regular forces at least, since tho war commenccd. A large number of natives c ? n o re Sated in camp to-day for the purpose of bidding tho troops good-bye. But X hare since heard that a meeting is to bo held during the day at which Colonel Haultaiu, the Defence Minister, and Dr. Pollen will be present. I will endeavour to forward particulars per Tauranga. To tho officers, noncommissioned officers, and men of the 68th. Jj.l. your correspondent is under many deep obligations to them for their kind courtesy at ail times, and for information which was never withheld when the exigencies of the service permitted.
