A NEW CALIFORNIA CLIPPER.

A beautifully-modelled clipper ship—the Seminole —built by Maxon, Fish, and Co., of Myrtle, Conn., and owned by Lawrence, Giles, and Co., of New York, is now loading at that city for San Francisco in Sutton and Co.'s despatch line. She is commanded by Captain J. W. Holmes, formerly of the Twilight. Tho following is a description of her l ' She ia 19S feet long, 41 feet breadth of beam, upper and lower between decks are each 7£ feet ia the clear, and the lower hold 10 feet. The frame is principally white oak, throat of floor, 17 inches; bottom plank of white oak, first quality, 4 inches thick ; keel white oak, 15 by 16 inches; shoe white oak, 4 inches thick; wales white oak, 5 j inches; 16 streaks, keelsons white oak of first quality, 16 by 16 inohes; sister keelsons, 18 inches; garboard streaks, 8 inches, best white oak, fastened; lower ceilingi 4 inches; bilge streaks, white oak, 14 iuchag thick, diminished to 9 inches; ceiling above bilge streak, white oak, 1h inches thick; middle deck 14 inches thick, streaks edge-bolted and treenailed tlirough and through, and wedged at both ends ; 5 large breast honks and painters in run; middle deck beams, 14 bv ! : inches, 6 feet apart; deck plank, 3J inches thick*;°hanging knees, 2 to each beam, of white oak and yellow hacmatas; lower deck of beams thoroughly kneed off; stanchions white oak, secured to keelsons by oak knees, and strapped to upper and lower beams; the cabin extends forward .of the mainmast; the midship house is between the mornmast and foremast, and has a topgallant forecastle. The spars are of first quality, double topsail yards, fore and mainmast made; the iron work to hull and spars is of first quality: copper butt bolts go through and through, and are extra copper bilge bolted, wood end bolted with copper and composition bolts;' the treenails are of best quality locust holts through'and through, and wedge at both ends. She is thoroughly treenailed from keel to plankship. The whole work of the ship is done in a thorough and workmanlike manner. Mystic, where this fine ship was built, has produced a great many fast ships—Willets, David Crockett, Andrew Jackson, Prima Donna, Cremorne, Mary L. Sutton Twilight, Favorita, and others. The Seminole, tho last, is not inferior to any, and by many is considered the best ship afloat.
