(Before Charles Mellsop, lfsq., R.M.) 1 [FROM OV'R OVTNT COKUESPONDENT.J i January 191 Ykstkkdat William Christopher, of Pnpakura, was charged upon the information* of Charles? Davidson, overseer of emigrants at Kcrikeri, with feloniously stealing and carrying away one grabbing hoe of the valuo of eight 'shillings, "the property of the Provincial Government. From the evidence it appeared the prisoner was observed taking the hoe away from tho yard of Mr. William Hay, Superintendent of Emigrants, near Papakura, and upon being pursued tho articles were found in his possession. Tho hoo was identified as tho property of tho Provincial Government. The prisoner heim* found guilty, was sentenced to six months imprisonment with hard labour. lliis Christopher has lately been looked upon hero as a potty thief; and lam glad to say, through tho of Constab'o JVCaflfery, the settlers will not bo troubled with him for some good time to come.
