HOKITIKA.. A considerable amount of business is boing donn bj ■ etoroK-eepers in oxoi'uting country orders, and in thie branch prices, as a rulo, aro steidily maintmncd. Ii the import trade, and at the auction mart, however prices li'ivo a downward tendency, the markets being more than fully supplied. Onts, bran, nnd chaff, may bo considered at present a drug, not realising sufficient advanco upon Melbourno prices to ptry- freight. Many pircc-ls have beon placed at considerable sacrifice. At a salo of slops ycetorday Tory low prioes wore realised, not so much on account of the mnrket being glutted as of the unsuitably of the consignments to local requirements. Of wiues and spirits there is a good supply. Timber, of which th« stocks in hand have been largely augmonted by recent arrivals, is unsaleablo at remunerative rates. A silo of the schooner Mariu, of Melbourno, now lying stranded on the north spit, was effected on Tuosday by Messrs. Binncy and Co. The vessel realised £500. Messrs. Hall and Finlay wero tho purchasers: Tha duties collected on imports into Hokitiktt from Monday the 27th ult. to Tuesday tho sth inst. inclu- ! sire, amouuted to £2,213 Is 7d. \ Between tho samo dates tho amount of geld e'eared i for export from llokitika was Sl5O ozs., on which £1016 17s od. duty was paid, making tho total customs revenue £3229 19s Id.— West Coast Times, December 0.

SYDNEY. (From the Jiinpin; December IG.) During (he week tho arrivals of wool have boo considerable, though not in excess of the usual elf liveries at tho present tinio of tho y.eur. The, washing establishments are fully engaged for some weeks to come, and in consequence many considerabl« parcels of unwashed wools (ire in course of shipment . to England. In our issno of Wednesday last, wo gave a full report of the sale of the c:irgo of sugars, ex Mar;? Gabriello, from Bourbon, which realised a materia advance upon former prices. To-day, Messrs. Threlkeld and Co. (tho auctioneers of tho cargo above referred to), offered tho balanco of the cargo of Mauritius sugars, ex Fanny Nicholson, but mot with very small success. Tlioro was no disposition to purchase, and tho fow small lots sold were placed at a reduction of fully ]0s per ton on previous rates. Tho following wero tho prices realised:—Ration qualities, £29 15s to £31 12s 6d; yollow countors, £38 los to £39 ; and white crystals, £43 10s per ton, duty paid. Since the decision of thu Aaaombly last night | relativo to the future duty on teas, there have been I no transactions calculated to indicate the future course of tho market.

In breadstuff's there has boon r.ioro doing, but transactions aro still confined almost exclusively to , trade parcels. The snle of 50 tons of bost Adelaide \ brands of flour, by Messrs. Threlkcld and Co., on Tuesday last, lias given us a better idea of the present market value, which wo now quote at £2-1 to £25 per ton for trado parcels, according to qiwiVily and terms. Sales of Adelaido wheat have been rondo at 10s., but Os Bd per busliol wo giro us the fair market quotation. Cnliforninn wheat is quoted 6s, and Chilian at B.s Gd to 83 9d per bushel. In liquids we have nothing to report beyond Pules of Kartell's and Hennessy',J dark brandies, at 6s 10d and Otard'fi at Gs 2d p< ■• gallon, by Rleesrs. L. E. Thrclked and Co.,*to-day.; Since the result of tho debate* last night on the Treasurer's financial echcuio, wo liavo not heard of ' any transactions calculated to indicate tho future tendency in prices for general merchandise. '. MELBOURNE. ; Tn tho import markots busines for tho woek closes with ratlios a quiet aspect, the expected arrival of the mail steamer, duo to-day in Adelaide, having had tho effect of creating a disinclination on tho part of i most dealars to enter into any further engagements until they receive English advices. Transactions, in consoquenco, have neither been important nor I numerous. Flour continues to be moved off steadily I to tho trado at £24 to £25 for Adelaido brands; Chilian realises £22. In wheat we have no ehango to report. Maize is steadily advancing, and though sales have been effected at 4s 10d, we learn that most now hold for os. Oats are still firming. A parcel of fifteen tons of Staffordshire boiler plates has been placed at £14 15s, and shipments to the extent of BB H plates havo been disposed of at a shade under that figure. Candlea are increasing ia favour; a parcel of aboat 900 boxes of Belmonts, 61b. packets, wae placed at 12] d. Further salos of outside parcels of cornsacks aro reported at advanced ratos.
