The day before ysstorday the officer at this station, ia accordance with instructions received from higher quarters, issui-d orders to the garrisons of Ohaupo and Hangi nvhii to dismantle those posts and rejoin head-quarters, but tho weather proving very unfavourable for the removal of troops, a subsequent order was issued postponing the change until yeiteittay, and later in the day the order for. Uio dismantlement of the redoubt at Kangiavrhia and Iho withdrawal of its ganison, was countermanded. Yosteruuy evoning the fallowing companies of tho 40th rejoined ftp ! uad-quarters of their regiment at this station:—No. 10, from Ohaupo, which post has been dismantled, and Kob. 2 nurt 3 .-.oinpanies from To liore, tho garrison of which now consists of No. •i ' comj.iany, -10th reaiment. To-day, tho following additional nii'-mgos will tuko place: — Nos. 1, 4,3, 7,umlS companies, 40th, will march hence to Te Eorn, and proceed by steamer to their destination as follows : tho firflt-nient : oned to Whatawhata, the next to Queen's Kodoubt, and the two latter to Ngaruawahia. Tho dotachment of tho !2th Keaiment at present tViese parts are, I understand, to move downwards, the head-quarters leaving>garuawahiaon nest. Thostrength of the various garrisons in tho Waikato will be as follows : four companies, 40th, at Te Awf.niutu ; one at Kangiawhia, one at To Horo, one at Whatawhata, two at Ngaruawahia. , at Queen's Redoubt. Harapipi, Alexandra, Kiliilrihi, Ohaupo, Cambridge, and Jiamillon will have to depend upon their own resources in the event c.f a'taclc from the natives, and ne-. d not count upon succour from th : s post, under any ciicumstances, as its garrison will be barely Euliieient for iu own defence.
