BAPTIST CHURCH TEA MEETING.
The anniversary of the Baptist Church in Wellesleystreet, wa« celebrated last evening by a social tea meeting, which was held in the school-room adjoining the church. There were upwards of 300 persons present, who after partaking of the viands of the teatable adjourned to the church, which was tastefully decorated with evergreens, featoons, &c. The Rev. P. Cornford, minister of the church, occupied the chair, and was supported by the Rev. T. Buddie, Revs. Mr. Bookor, Mr. Brame, Mr. Cox, and other gentlemen, from whom some very eloquent, instructive, and interesting addresses were delivered. Mr. Plummer presided at the harmonium, and at intervals several selections of sacred music were creditablv ] erformed by the choir. During the evening the following report was read by Mr. Cox, th* Secretary:— 1 Report of the Vaptist Church, Wetlcski/'strect, Auckland, October 17, 1365. The Church has now 305 members, being an increase of 43 during the year. The following is the financial statement £ s. d. "With regard to the financial position, J the Ladies' Collecting Committee, with but v»-ry little extraneous aid, have paid of the debt, the sum of ... 208 0 0 '"The teachers in the Sunday School have collected and contributed, and therewith purchased a school-room for separate services, a sum of ~ .. 113 0 0 "The Mount Eden School Committee have in like manner found .. .. 148 1* 6 "To this must be added a sum spent in payment of minister'" salary, insurance, and other expenses incident to the maintenance of this house as a place of worship, amounting to .. .. 7*lo " Making a total expenditure during tho year of ... £1,209 14 6 And as the whole amount has been received, a like amount of contributions. "The Orßiuuosa oi' tiie Church. " Our pastor generally conducts tfio services, both morning and evening of the Lord's Day ; a prayer meeting on Monday evenings; Bible class, with an average attendance 0f25, on Tuesday evenings; and a preaching service on Wednesday evenings. "Sunday Schools. "The school in connection with the church numbers 17 male teachers, 14 female teachers, and 2 visitors; making a total of 33. 1 here are 131 girls and 125 boys in the school, 256 together, with an average attendance m the morning of lOOand 152 in the afternoon. There have been over 200 in (he room on several occasions. Mrs. Cornford conducts a Bible class for young women, having about 20 members; and Mr. Jo=hna KoMn.on a youn< mc-n's Bible class, who have seen fit and proper to make themselves an additional room.m which to hold their meetings. •• Mount Edkn Sunday School.
