THE HIRA. Wo liavo been requested to contradict a report that appeared ill our columns the other dav, statin;; " that in nil rarobabilitv the llira hud foundered with all hands. Tho 'report originated from the fuct that a stern board with the word "Hira painted upon it, several hatches (belonging to some coasting craft) and a lot of cascr-; had been picked up on tho Great farrier Island by somo fishermen on "Wednesday last, and brought up to Auckland by theschooner Fancy tho next day. How the stern board, &c., got there is as yet ft mystery, but we are glad 11 announce that the Hira is all safe, and from Tuumngn in company with tho Tauranga un I' riday last, bound to Wnng.uiinta. THE NEW FERRY STEAMER. Yesterday we paid a visit to the Messrs. Holmos Building Yard, North Shore, where there is in courso of construction a line new steamer intended for the f-rrv service. Site is of 70 feet keel, 77 feet overall, 11 fret beam, 5 feet 3 inches depth of hold, and will be pr< pelled by two engines of 12 horse power each. The machinery has been purchased in Melbourne, and from the hist advices nceivecl from Mr. Bach, was all put up and ready for shipment by the next steamer ; the boat herself is all but compl-ted, and wdl be launehed in about 10 dans' time. Upon tho steamer with tho machinery arriving from Sydney, she will go alongside, and ship her boilers, Are., when it is expected t"he will be ready to commence running in about a fortnight afterwards. She is a fine roomy boat, fitted with two spacious saloons, each capable of accommodating from -10 to 51) persons, and provided with every comfort possible. Messrs Holmes intend to run her rftiiilnr/y between .Auckland and the Flagstaff from H a.m. to 9 p.m., which will be a very great convenience during tho lummer months, and we have no doubt that the Messrs. Holmes will receive that support which they so well merit. THE BANSHEE. The tine schooner is still keeping up hor reputation n-* a clipper, as will be seen by the following extract from the Ijidrpi ndt nt of the 2'Jth ult. :— "The schooner Banshee, Captain K.
