MR. BUCKLANDS'S NEW MARKET.
Tin-: new market for the sale of horses, cattle, slice]), carriages, grain, wool, and other articles and produce, lately erectcd by Mr. AlfredUnckland in Ihirham-sireci, is now very nearly completed ill its internal arrangements and titiings.
The building is a very imposing and substantial structure, admirably adapted for the purposes for which it is designed. It is about 17" or IS" feet in length and some li" feet wide. Along the two sides and the one end of (he building are stalls for cattle. On one side these number sixteen double stalls, and oil the other seven. Icavinir a lar-je space between for showing Ihe animals on sale days, and to accommodate the purchasers. .At the furthest ,i ":vm Dur-ham-street is f lie auctioneer's rostrum, and oil each side ot' il are stalls with gales to them, for unbroken cattle. The yard adjoining the building will give additional accommodation when required, and with the store-room for grain and so forth, and f heoflicesadjoining the sale-rooms of .Mr. iiiiekland. occupy a large space of ground, and are very compact and complete.
Hut the new building lias a gallery some twenty feet wide running along two sides and the furthest end of it. This gallery is approached internally by a wide flight of steps, and externally by a sloping pathway. One side of it is intended for the arrangement of carriages intended for sale, and the other for wool, grain, and other articles. The sloping pathway just mentioned enables carriages to lie taken to their destined position in the gallery with the greatest ease. '1 his seems a very admirable contrivance, for it will enable much greater care to be taken of carriages than can be where they arc left exposed to the weather or placed iu a crowded state in the immediate vicinity where
cattle arc being sold. Altogether this new structure seems admirably adapted lor the uses for which it is designed, and is a credit to the town of Auckland and to the public spirit ot one of her well-known business men.
