HAWKE'S BAY.
[FROM OUIi OWN CORRESPONDENT.]}
Napier, August 17-_ Native affairs in this Province ara at last beginning to assume ra'her a serious character. 'Ihey are getting more and more abusive every day ; and notwithstanding all that Mr. McLean and men of his stamp may say to the contrary, overy person can very clearly see that-icar in its worst shape will sooner or later devastate (at present) tranquil shores. By the Queen, which arrived here last night from Wellington, we have intelligence that 800 more soldiers are going to be stationed in Napier;—s-> it would appear that some one in authority thinks that the i-tate of affairs are not in such a health)' condition as the Philo-Maori party would have us to believe. We have had no further news from the East C' ast, — the St. Kilda not having as yet arrived, although aow anxiously expected for some time.
